The CRC and Research Infrastructure (CRC & RI) section manages QUT’s involvement in Cooperative Research Centres (CRCs), and contributes to the development and implementation of large research infrastructure opportunities.

QUT is involved in 11 CRCs funded under the Commonwealth Government’s CRC Programme. CRC & RI provides the main administrative interface between the University and the CRCs it is involved in. The unit works closely with the Commercial Research and Consultancy Projects Unit of OCS to administer accounts for CRC funded research projects.

CRC & RI also assists with the establishment of new CRCs (e.g. legal arrangements) once they have been approved by the Commonwealth. Please note that the CRC application process is administered by the Office of Research under the direction of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Commercialisation), as per the MOPP section D/4.2.

CRC & RI also facilitates the legal and funding arrangements for large research infrastructure projects the University is implementing, based on funds from the Queensland (eg Smart State Innovation Building Fund) and Commonwealth Governments, and from industry. Current projects include a Biorefinery Pilot Plant in Mackay, and the Australian Research Centre for Aerospace Automation (ARCAA).

The CRC &RI section also provides contract preparation and account management support for the Sugar Research Group in QUT’s Centre for Tropical Crops and Biocommodities. This Group provides commercial research and consulting services to the domestic and international sugar milling industries and is mainly comprised of consultants who moved to QUT from the Sugar Research Institute in Mackay in 2005.
