The Office of Commercial Services (OCS) is an office within the Division of Research and Commercialisation that works with Faculties and Institutes to support their external services activities. These activities include:
- Contract research
- Consultancy
- International aid in development projects
- Continuing professional education and training
- Conference and event management
- Corporate award programs
- Cooperative Research Centres and large infrastructure projects
The Division's responsibilities span the Research and Commercialisation domains and it has a critical role in generating earned income to support the University's operations, particularly in the business development and commercial research areas. The Division is responsible for liaising and negotiating with major granting bodies in order to maximise the University's competitive grant income and to support the interpretation and timely implementation of research policies and reforms across the University. The Division oversees the development and delivery of the University's Research and Innovation Plan, administers the University Research Budget, and oversees all R&D contracts and the University's Research Ethics Framework. The Division oversees the University's Doctoral and other research training through its Research Students Centre.
The distribution of responsibility is based primarily on the sources of funding. OCS manages commercial research and consultancy projects that are either funded by industry or have direct industry involvement. The Office of Research administers research funded by established granting bodies including both government and non-government agencies and all grants provided by agencies listed in the National Competitive Grants Index.
